Crushed Stone

Rohrer's Quarry owes its abundant supply of quality stone to our location in the middle of one of the largest surfact limestone deposits in Pennsylvania. The solid, confirmed reserves in this single location are sufficient to continue our service well into the future.

Rohrer's crushes products that meet specifications of Pennsylvania and surrounding states and satisfy a wide variety of building and road construction needs. From large stone for stream bank stabilization to state approved limestone sand for septic drain fields, the quality of each product is assured by in-house testing and careful monitoring.

We work hard to make sure we are operating with the best equipment available to do the work required. Constant updating and careful maintenance ensure high production levels and a reliable supply. With primarily a single shift working four-day weeks we have produced over a million tons of material in a year. Ample stockpiles and the ability to quickly extend shifts enables us to meet even the most demanding needs of our customers.

Rohrer's Quarry has a fine safety record that is a result of a serious commitment to safe work practices and training. Workers are trained in all areas of safety by certified staff in an annual eight-hour session and monthly safety meetings. A safety committee meets to review concerns, make recommendations for improvement, and monitor a safety incentive program that rewards safe behavior. Some training materials are even produced in-house and have won first place in a national training materials competition at the Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, West Virginia.

Specialty Products

While the need for agricultural lime gave birth to our business over a century ago, its production today at Rohrer's Quarry is in no way old fashioned. Today's equipment is capable of crushing material fine enough to be used on fields without the need to burn it in a kiln. The lime produced is gray, not white in color and provides it's desirable neutralizing effect on acids in the soil for a longer period of time than burned lime.

Unlike years ago, today we can also produce quantities sufficient to serve not only neighboring farms, but distant markets as well. Our facility that produces the lime is fully automated and state of the art. Silos with the capacity to store fifteen hundred tons make dry lime as well as damp lime readily available to the customer. Size and chemical analysis is guaranteed through registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Our aglime crushing plant also manufactures a wide variety of other modern products for agricultural blending, steel manufacturing, and pollution control. We have our own laboratory and technician on site to provide constant quality assurance, testing gradation and chemical content to be sure that materials always meet or exceed guarantees. Loading is provided for both pneumatic tank trucks and dump trailers.

The agricultural chip material we produce is used primarily as filler in processed fertilizer products. This material can be made dry or with an additive for dust control. A fourteen thousand square foot covered storage area attached to the plant is capable of holding ten thousand tons of material in reserve to accommodate seasonal peak demands.

We also provide a special sorbent material that is used to beneift the environment. This precision limestone product is needed in coal-burning electric co-generation facilities for pollution control. Co-gen plants burn coal waste that has been polluting the coal mining areas with its runoff for years. The limestone captures sulfur from this previously unusable coal as it is burned and allows what once was a menace to the environment to provide clean, efficient electricity.
